Retired Teachers
Retired teachers seeking to return to the profession may renew or reinstate their HTSB teaching license in accordance with state requirements. Renewal is available for licenses that are still valid or have recently expired. Those whose licenses or permits have expired for an extended period of time will need to start a new application. Both options ensure compliance with current licensure standards and eligibility to teach in accredited K-12 schools.

Substitute Certification
The HTSB does not issue Substitute Certification. Substitute Certification is handled by the Hawaiʻi Department of Education. For more information, contact the Teacher-Substitute Educator Automated System (T-SEAS) at (808) 441-8400 or [email protected].
Renewing Your HTSB License
If your license is expiring soon, log in to your HTSB account to renew your valid, non-expired license. The online portal will guide you through the renewal application process and required documentation. To check on the status of your application, go to My Profile Home in your HTSB account and view My HTSB Transaction history. Renewing early helps ensure timely processing and maintains your licensure eligibility.
New to HTSB, Create an Account
If you are new to HTSB, create an HTSB profile. After logging in, click on your name, then select 'My Profile'. From here, you will select the appropriate action, which can include starting a new application, converting a license or permit, or adding a teaching field. Complete all steps of your selected application, saving your progress after each step. When you’re finished with your application, click SUBMIT.
Locked Out of HTSB Account
If you have forgotten your login credentials or are locked out of your HTSB account, please email [email protected] for assistance. DO NOT create a new account, as the information and documents entered on your original account will not be transferred to your new account. If you submitted the wrong application or selected the incorrect verification option, we will need your permission to cancel your application, allowing you to reapply correctly.
